The messages, pre-recorded as MP3 files, are stored on a removable USB drive which plugs into the unit. It is possible to store up to 99 files with a total recording time of several hundred hours. Message files are played in rotation, one per activation. In case of power outage the unit will automatically resume operation after power is restored.
